Things to do in Oxfordshire
Halloween to New Year's Edition
When it comes to accommodation, Oxfordshire has plenty of choice but nowhere is as inviting as The Feathers. To welcome you into the area, we have made sure that our latest blog transcends two seasons – keep reading if you want to find out what you can get up to from Halloween and Bonfire Night, right through until Christmas and New Year.
Halloween at Blenheim Palace
A mere stone's throw from our delightful accommodation, Oxfordshire's beloved Blenheim palace is the place to go for some fun Half Term Halloween entertainment. From the 20th October - 4th November visitors can make the most of some hauntingly exciting events and activities. From the ghost train to the Pleasure Gardens that will be transformed for some spooky activities, there will be plenty to see and do if you are brave enough. Fireworks will also be set off on the 3rd November at the palace, a spectacular sight we are sure!
Bonfire Night Bonanzas in Oxford
Imagine fireworks, sparklers, exciting entertainment and a fair; you can enjoy all this and more at Oxford's 51st Annual Charity Fireworks Display at South Park. Taking place on the 3rd November, be sure to wrap up warm and remember that all money raised is donated to local charities. More than £100,000,000 has been put back into the community since the first display in 1967. Alternatively, you can take a look here for a complete listing of all the local Guy Fawkes events happening nearby.
A Festive Fayre & Light Switch-On
The Woodstock Festive Fayre is to be held on the 24th and 25th November, and the entire team at The Feathers cannot wait. A beloved tradition, this year the fayre will host more than 30 stallholders, and we are looking forward to all the festive decorations, jewellery, prints, cards, clothing and scented gifts immensely. We'll have our gift lists to hand! Not forgetting A Night of a Thousand Candles, of course, it wouldn't be a festive celebration without Christmas lights being turned on, would it? On the evening of the 24th November the town square will see Woodstock's newest Christmas light illuminations, not to mention entertainment, celebrity guests and a traditional count-down to the switch-on.
Christmas at Blenheim
From the 15th to the 18th November you can attend the Living Crafts for Christmas event at Blenheim Palace. More than 180 British designers and makers will be showcasing their gift-worthy contemporary crafts, but if shopping isn't what you fancy then you can always attend the magical Illuminated Christmas Trail or a festive fairy tale experience centred around Cinderella. Both start on the 23rd November, with the trail featuring singing trees, frosty snowflakes, stars and glistening baubles; we are at a loss for words as to how beautiful an event this will be. Cinderella will see rooms in the palace transformed to evoke sights and sounds that will make you think of characters from this much-loved fairy tale. What room will you be in when the clock strikes midnight? The Stepmother's drawing room, the Ugly Sister's bedroom scattered with clothes, Cinderella's own quarters complete with her delicate hand-made gown or perhaps the ethereal space where The Fairy Godmother resides…
New Year's Celebrations at The Feathers
We have to say, that there isn't a party quite like a Feathers party. Our two-night New Year's break is set to be the highlight of the year – you can even bring out your best Black Tie attire. On the 30th December, enjoy Woodstock village or the city of Oxford to your heart's content, before indulging in a decadent cream tea and charming candlelight a la carte dinner. On the final day of the year, you will have a famous Feathers breakfast before taking the day to explore the nearby attractions. Then the party begins; you'll soon be dancing and dining the night away at our Black-Tie Dinner and disco. New Year's Day will see you sample a hearty brunch, before strolling confidently into 2019.
